How NVIDIA interviews Data Analysts

NVIDIA publishes a single hiring process for all roles. Screen, take-home, case, behavioral and onsite are preparation categories on this page, not NVIDIA's round names.

• Phone interviews. For full-time roles, candidates typically participate in phone interviews followed by virtual or in-person interviews. Interns typically complete phone interviews only.
• Interviews with the team and other groups. You meet the hiring manager, team members, and employees from other groups, in one-on-one, small group, or panel interviews that usually last 30-60 minutes each.
• A coding exercise, possibly. Candidates for technical roles may be asked to complete a coding exercise, usually on HackerRank, on a whiteboard or on a laptop NVIDIA provides. NVIDIA does not say whether analysts count as technical roles for this purpose, so prepare a SQL exercise as if they do.
• The onsite. An onsite, in-person interview at an NVIDIA office must be completed before you can be considered for an offer.
• Insider Chat. An optional 15-minute meeting during the final interview that does not influence hiring decisions.

NVIDIA does not publish a rubric. What it publishes is who you meet and for how long, and that unapproved outside tools such as ChatGPT during the interview mean disqualification. For an analyst, meeting employees from other groups matters most: they are the consumers of your analysis, and they will test whether you can explain a number to someone who does not share your context.

Data Analyst interviews in general assess:

• SQL and data cleaning. Joins, aggregations, window functions, and catching duplicates and nulls before reporting.
• Metrics and dashboards. Defining a metric precisely and knowing when it misleads.
• Communicating findings. Turning a result into a decision someone in another group can act on.
• Business judgment. Choosing which analysis to do first and defending it.

NVIDIA's published process does not vary by role, so these differences are general practice.

• Compared with Data Scientist interviews, expect less modeling and experiment design and more metric definition, descriptive analysis and clear recommendations.
• Compared with Data Engineer interviews, expect little on pipeline architecture and more on interpreting data that already exists, including its flaws.
• Compared with other companies, the published details to plan around are the required in-person onsite, interviewers from other groups, and the explicit tool rule with disqualification as its consequence.

NVIDIA says most candidates have a decision within a matter of weeks from their first interview. It does not publish how many interviews an analyst has or how the virtual rounds and the onsite are spaced.

The difficulty is consistency across audiences. Several 30-60 minute conversations with the hiring manager, teammates and people from other groups mean the same analysis will be questioned from the technical side and from the consumer side. Analysts who know their past work at the level of definitions and checks, and who can restate a finding for a different audience without changing it, do well in that format.

Prepare for the published shape: short conversations with several audiences, a possible timed exercise, and an onsite.

• SQL on a timer. Practice in a HackerRank-style environment and narrate your checks, since the exercise may be on a whiteboard or a provided laptop.
• Metric stories. For each metric on your resume, the definition, its weaknesses and a decision it changed.
• Two-audience explanations. Rehearse explaining one analysis to an engineer and to a business partner, because interviewers come from other groups.
• Onsite logistics. The in-person onsite is required before an offer; plan for it.
