Responsible Use
SubcueAI is a real-time AI assistant designed for interview preparation. Some uses of it are legitimate. Some aren't. This page is about that distinction.
When is SubcueAI appropriate?
Practice mode.
Use SubcueAI during mock interviews with friends, recruiters, or coaching services. The AI suggestions are training reps — you say the answer in your own words, learn what a strong response looks like, and refine your delivery.
Study aid before a real interview.
Use SubcueAI in the days before to drill on the question patterns specific to the company or role you're targeting. Walk through your resume narratives with the AI as a sparring partner.
Real-time accessibility.
People with auditory processing differences, language anxiety, or speech-affecting conditions use SubcueAI to keep up with rapid spoken interview content. This is the use case we're proudest of.
Self-coaching for nerves.
Calm-down tool. If the interview format triggers blanking — like it did for our founder (see his letter) — the suggestion overlay is there to nudge you back to material you already know.
When is SubcueAI NOT appropriate?
When the interview explicitly prohibits external aid.
Many companies disclose this in writing before the interview. Some platforms (HireVue proctoring, certain Amazon loops, gov contractor screens) make it clear. Read what you signed. If they said "no AI assistance", don't use AI assistance. Honesty matters.
Certifications and licensure exams.
Bar exam, medical licensing, CFA, FAA pilot exams, securities exams, etc. SubcueAI is not for these. The integrity rules exist for good reasons.
Misrepresentation of authorship.
Don't use suggestions verbatim and then claim them as your own when asked. If your interviewer asks "is that your own answer", the honest answer is "I had a real-time AI prompt to help me get unstuck — here's what I actually believe about it". Most thoughtful interviewers will respect that more than a perfectly-recited script.
Anything where the cost of being caught exceeds the value of using the tool.
Use judgment.
How does SubcueAI handle compliance?
We do not store interview audio on our servers. Transcripts are not retained unless you opt into history. Resume data is encrypted at rest. There is no "recording" we could be subpoenaed for. We've designed SubcueAI to leave the minimum forensic trail consistent with the AI features working — because the right answer to "did you use AI in your interview" should be your own choice to disclose, not data we leak.
If your industry compliance team needs a written posture, we'll write one. Contact contact@subcue.app.
Misuse and account closure
If we discover an account is being used to perpetrate financial fraud, identity misrepresentation, or violation of explicit assessment terms by a regulated entity (e.g., licensing boards), we will close the account without refund. SubcueAI is a tool for honest preparation. We mean it.
