The LinkedIn interview prep tool, honestly assessed

You have seen the Interview Prep link on a job posting and want to know whether it is worth the time before you click. It is, for a specific job. Here is what sits behind it.

The honest limitation is not quality, it is shape. Interview Prep rehearses one question at a time, in isolation, with no follow-up. Real interviews are conversations: an interviewer hears your answer, picks the weakest claim in it, and asks about that. The skill of handling the second question, the one you did not prepare for, is the skill the format cannot practise.

The feedback is also about delivery rather than substance. It can tell you that you said "um" often and spoke quickly. It does not tell you that your example was too vague, that you never named an outcome, or that you answered a different question from the one asked.

Treat Interview Prep as a warm-up rather than a training programme. It is genuinely good at the first pass: getting an answer out of your head and into spoken words, hearing your own pace, and noticing that a story you thought was two minutes long runs to five.

Consider a concrete case. A marketing manager preparing for a first-round call uses Interview Prep to rehearse the standard opening question, notices the answer runs long, and cuts it down. That is real progress on one question. What it did not surface was that the interviewer's follow-up, asking which of those campaigns underperformed and why, had no prepared answer behind it at all.

The gap is a full conversation with follow-ups. A session on the mock interview page runs a complete round with the interviewer pushing on your answers, which is the part rehearsing single questions cannot cover.
