What does the presentation round involve?

Being told to prepare a presentation with little guidance about length or audience is a common complaint, so here is what candidate accounts consistently describe, along with the two constraints worth designing around.

The format is usually a short technical talk about work you have already done, delivered to a panel of engineers who will interview you afterwards, or who interleave questions with the talk itself. For research and PhD-level hires the subject is often the thesis or a principal project; for industry hires it is a shipped system or a part that went into production.

The two constraints are these. First, the audience is technical and specific to the team, so they will follow real depth and will notice when a slide skips the hard part. Second, they interrupt. Confirm the practicalities with your recruiter rather than guessing: time budget, whether the panel wants slides at all, and whether anything you present needs to be free of a former employer's confidential material.

Keep it under ten slides. Confidential material from a current employer stays out entirely; describe the class of problem and the method instead, which is both safer and usually sufficient.

How do you handle the questions afterwards?

The questioning works like the rest of a Tesla loop: repeated why, until you reach the edge of what you actually understand. Reaching that edge is expected. Pretending you have not is the failure mode, because the next question is designed to check.

The practical consequence is to treat the presentation round as a normal presentation. Share a single window rather than the full desktop, close everything unrelated, silence notifications, and rehearse until you do not need prompts.
