Amazon Chime Interviews: What Changed and How to Prepare

Amazon Chime is Amazon's own video meeting product, and Amazon long ran its virtual interviews on it. That has changed. AWS ended support for the Chime service on February 20, 2026, and its product page now says Chime can be used in special cases to join meetings. Amazon's candidate guidance reflects the shift: its interview platforms page says interviews may take place on Zoom or Amazon Chime, and that your recruiter will tell you which one to use and share the link.

For a candidate, the practical consequence is that the platform named in your invite matters. The setup steps differ between the two, and most people have hundreds of Zoom calls behind them and few or no Chime calls, so a Chime invite is the one that deserves a rehearsal. If the invite is unclear, ask your recruiting contact which platform to expect.

Amazon's remote interview page lays out the preparation, and your recruiting contact emails the link and instructions. If the invite is on Zoom, Amazon points you to Zoom's own setup and test-meeting resources, including joining from a browser or the Zoom app. If it is on Chime, Amazon's steps are to download the Chime desktop app for Windows or macOS and join with the meeting ID your recruiting contact provided; there is no need to sign in.

• If you will share your screen during the interview, Amazon says to download the desktop version of your assigned platform.
• Test your audio and video on the assigned platform in advance.
• If you have trouble connecting, close and re-enter the meeting; if that fails, dial in with the toll-free number in your invitation and email your recruiting contact right away.
• For coding or design exercises, Amazon suggests sharing a drawing or diagramming tool from your computer, a web whiteboard such as Miro, or a sketch on paper held up to the camera.

Opening the test link the evening before takes a few minutes and removes the unfamiliar part from the real call.

You want your setup to behave on interview day exactly as it did in practice, and that is a reasonable goal whichever platform Amazon assigns. This section covers audio, notes, and where an AI assistant fits. The short version: Zoom and Chime both behave like any desktop meeting client at the audio layer.

Your usual setup carries over: a wired or well-paired headset, a quiet room, and notifications silenced. The boundaries are the same on Zoom and Chime, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest. If an interviewer asks you to share your screen for a coding or design exercise, everything on that screen is visible, and assist tools are out of scope. If a round is recorded or proctored, the same applies. Amazon's online assessments, which come before the loop for many roles, can carry monitoring that puts them out of scope too.

Amazon's remote interview guidance does not say whether live rounds are recorded, so ask your recruiter if it matters to you, and take any recording notice at face value. Inside those boundaries, the platform is just a meeting app: your voice, their questions, and whatever preparation you brought.
