They are structured conversations about real business problems, with attention on how candidates think, organise problems, and build on ideas rather than finding one correct answer.

Software Engineer preparation should instead centre on executable code, technical design, code quality, and precise communication. Do not assume that the consulting pathway describes the Software Engineer interview format.

Bain & Company does not publish how long the process takes. For roles that include a take-home challenge, the stated completion window is about three days.

The difficulty comes from showing several skills together: reaching a correct solution, explaining why it works, writing maintainable code, examining tradeoffs, and responding constructively to feedback. Gauge readiness by whether you can do those things aloud without losing structure.
